Los Angeles is no stranger to fire. Every year, the city watches flames consume homes, landscapes, and memories. But as much as fire destroys, it also ignites. Passion, drive, creativity—these things burn just as fiercely inside the people who chase their dreams here. That’s why, when LA is literally on fire, we fight back with our own fire. And that’s why we stay.
A Night of Music, Community, and Giving Back
Playing at Vulture Culture Oddities in Burbank, California with Alec Daniels was an incredible honor. This wasn’t just another show—it was a night where music became a force for good, raising money for those affected by the devastating Los Angeles fires. Huge shout out to the insanely talented Leah Martin-Brown for putting it all together! Watching her, Alan Palma, Lexi Layne, and Jules and The Howl perform was pure magic.

The event, a monthly acoustic showcase, brought together some of the best artists from LA and beyond. This time, it had a deeper purpose—every ticket sold, every raffle entry, and every donation went directly to those who lost so much in the fires. The generosity of this community was overwhelming, with donation boxes filling up with clothing, toiletries, and household goods for those in need.
Why Do I Keep Writing About Fire?
During our set, I mentioned something that hit me in that moment—I have a hard time finding songs I’ve written that don’t mention fire. It’s a theme that keeps appearing in my lyrics:
"I brought a flame to the bridge just to watch it burn more…"
"Put the fire out with fire and then burn it down for fun…"
"You wouldn't want to dim her light, just so you can go to sleep at night 'cause she'll burn, burn, burn you down…"
"Heart on fire, or maybe it’s indigestion…"
I used to have a phobia of fire. As a kid, I even slept with a fire extinguisher under my bed. But now, fire is something I write about constantly—not just as a destructive force, but as a symbol of passion, reinvention, and resilience.

Los Angeles is full of people who are on fire—not literally (hopefully), but inside. They are burning with the need to create, to perform, to push forward no matter how hard the industry or life gets. I’ve never met more passionate people than I have in this city.
That’s why, even when LA is on fire, we don’t leave. We fight fire with fire—the fire inside us that keeps us going, no matter what.
